Spicy Hawaiian Burgers
This is a lean, healthy, flavorful alternative to beef or bland turkey burgers. I served it with asian rice and vegetables.
2 lbs ground chicken/turkey
1/3 cup minced sweet onion
1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce
3/4 tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp seasoning salt
(I use Lawry's)
(I use Lawry's)
1/2 tsp ground cumin
1 clove garlic, minced
6 pineapple rings, pat dry
Wheat buns, pepper jack or provolone cheese
Real mayonnaise and Sriracha sauce
Combine the ground meat, onion, soy sauce, garlic and all seasonings. Lightly mix with your hands and divide them into six, even balls. Form patties and refrigerate, about 30 minutes.
Use an outdoor or indoor grill, or sauté pan to cook the burgers, about six minutes per side. I used my 4 in 1 griddle/panini maker (griddle plates) because I prefer the sear vs. a grill, but do whatever you prefer! If you use a grill/panini maker, oil the grates first. The burgers should flip easily when they are ready to turn, if they want to stick, give them another minute.
Top with cheese and a pineapple ring for the last 1-2 minutes of cooking time to melt. Remove to a plate and cover with aluminum foil to rest. Spread mayo and Sriracha sauces onto the buns, add the burger and, aloha. It's done.
